Help for someone who has helped so many!

There are no words to encompass the strange the world we live in right now.  Many of us are struggling, bored, scared, and wondering what the future holds. We spend our days fighting to log in to Hawaii  unemployment, to keep our sanity, food on the table, and hope in our hearts.

Many of you have probably seen  the name Kanani Elaban as the administrator of the Hawai’i Unemployment Updates and Support group or maybe on the countless posts she has made in the group to help answer questions, clarify information and keep people from attacking one another.   She has spent hours monitoring this page making sure information is up to date, relevant, and helpful.  Mind you she has never worked a day at the state unemployment office and has taken the time to research EVERYTHING she has found so she can selflessly share it with the group and help people during this time.

She has done all this while home schooling three children, fighting for unemployment and benefits for her and her self-employed husband, and taking care of a 13 puppies in the last three months that came unexpectedly and resulted in the heart breaking passing of her baby (the mother of the litter).

Kanani, before the world turned upside down, spent her weekdays as a special education teacher and her weekend nights the fearless “door mama” of a club that is a staple in the LGBTQ community.  Needless to say she is  a very giving and selfless person.

I say all of this to let you know that this wonderful, caring, fierce lady is going through a tough time right now and needs our help. Recently Kanani has had serious dental issues and is facing decisions without dental insurance that none of us should have to make. Unemployment has been denied for both her and her partner at this time so while time is of the essence due to the amount of pain she is going through money is also a problem.

I have created this go-fund me despite her resistance to the idea; in fact her words were, “how can (she) ask for help when everyone is struggling right now?” I know a lot of us are, but many small stones can create big ripples and there are a lot of us that can spare $5 dollars $10 or even $20. The $2500 is just covering the minimum cost for her care right now, without even giving money to her family, so the more  we can do the better.

We are all in this together and what better way to show we are Hawai’i strong when we stand together and take care of one another.

I plan to be the first donation. Please consider joining me to help her and her family.

Mahalo, wash your hands, keep your heads up, and don’t touch your face!

Wishing you’re well,
