Help for the Beck kids

Donation protected

Dear Friends of the Beck Family,

Today, I am calling on you for financial and moral support and assistance for the Beck kids, Kyle, Sydney, and Taylor.

It truly does take a village, and the Beck kids are certainly no exception.

My daughter Evelyn (17 years old) has been best friends with twins, Taylor and Sydney and Heidi Kübler's daughter, Lucy since they were all in first grade together. As you recall, when the girls were in fourth grade, Julie, their Mother and our friend, passed away from cancer. It was a devastating loss for the twins, their brother, Kyle and their father, Matt. It was for all of us. As of today, Matt's condition has worsened and he is no longer able to care for the kids or himself.

Matt's hoarding issues, drug abuse, and his unwillingness to accept mental and medical help over the past five years has created an abusive, unhealthy environment for the kids. Due to the deteriorating circumstances at home, last year Sydney decided it was necessary for her mental and physical health to move out of the family apartment. She has been living with Heidi since then. Two months ago, Taylor and Kyle followed and are also now living with Heidi, away from their dad.

Our truly amazing friend, Heidi has so graciously taken them all in and given them a home until they are able to move out on their own. She is trying to give them a running start on their futures so they at least have a shot at being successful. You may also remember that Heidi and I worked together a few years ago to get the Becks moved into a new apartment when they were being evicted and needed help. Here is a link to the previous fundraiser, that you were all so very gracious and generous with.

Previous Beck Family Fundraiser

We thank you from our hearts again for the help you all provided back then.

Heidi has given them so much love, support, and stability - she is truly a gift for these kids. They needed somewhere to go, and she opened her home to them without a second thought and without asking for anything in return.

However, I know Heidi's finances are stretched to the max as she is a single mother and still paying for and supporting her own 3 children. I have been trying my best to help, but they need more help than I can give on my own. She's still coming up short every month.

And so, I am reaching out to you all, "our village" for some help.

Here are some of what they need moving forward:

- Food, grocery items, and daily essentials such as laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, etc. (Heidi mostly shops at Walmart for groceries, if you prefer gift cards)
- Increased utility bills
- Hygiene items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, feminine hygiene, etc.
Clothing and shoes
- Furniture: Beds with mattresses, bedding, pillows, desks, chairs, etc.
- School materials and supplies for the rest of the high school year and to start college
- Computers/laptops for college
- Graduation costs: Announcements, caps and gowns; Senior pictures; a Graduation Celebration (due to Covid, Heidi wants to plan a house party for the twins and their friends); prom outfits and costs for throwing a "Private Prom Party"
- Sydney and Taylor's college registration fees (approximately $300 each for registration and housing applications)
- College books and materials
- Health bills (Sydney needs asthma medication but she has been forced to live without it because she cannot afford it. Sydney also could use a new pair of glasses with a fresh prescription. All three kids need medical care and mental health therapy.)
- Gas and car maintenance (Heidi also drives the kids wherever they need to go, including work, and friends' houses, etc. as none of them have a license or a car.)
- Moving costs (Kyle is currently seeking his own independent living, and Sydney will be moving sometime over the summer to Channel Islands to go to college. They will need U-haul rentals and security deposits, etc.)

To make matters even more complicated, Heidi had a raw sewage flood in her home in Oceanside in mid-January and has been living in AirBnB's ever since. She has made accommodations for all the kids because the AirBnBs are fully furnished. However, because Kyle and Taylor joined Heidi's family during her displacement, she has to prepare and acquire furnishings for them at her house. They are moving home toHeidi's house at the end of this month.

Finally, the kids could really use your moral support in addition to financial support. If you know the Beck kids and want to reach out directly to them or Heidi, please email me at [email redacted] or Heidi at [email redacted] and we will coordinate visits and/or phone calls.

Like Heidi, I still believe in us - in community and the willingness of humanity to help those who need it. I can't make much of a difference alone, but with all of you, we could really help.

Thank you, in advance, from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and generosity. Your help will mean so much to Heidi, myself, and the kids.
