Help for the Berkland Family
Donation protected
A fellow Kenston family, the Berkland's, needs our help, Bomber nation! I'm Nicole, one of the room parents of Sedrick Berkland's third grade class at Timmons Elementary. His mom, Cindy, let us know that Sedrick and his father were in a tragic accident over the Thanksgiving break. They were traveling to South Carolina for the holiday and stopped at a hotel in Virginia late at night. Sedrick's father was carrying him into the hotel and tripped over a curb sending them over a steep, rocky embankment. Sedrick was taken via helicopter to the nearest Level 1 Trauma center, where he fought to keep his kidney and spleen while experiencing internal bleeding. He suffered a skull fracture and and a fracture at the orbital bone. Luckily, he was able to avoid surgery for now, but is still possibly at risk.
His father, Doug, has possible fractured ribs, a fractured wrist that requires surgery, stitches near his eye and heavy bruising all over his legs and back.
8 hours after being discharged Sedrick developed a fever and acute pain and is still suffering from on and off fevers. He is at risk for blood clots.
Donations are greatly appreciated as Sedrick and his father Doug focus on healing and recovering from their injuries, and mom Cindy along with siblings Silas and Adele can be there to help them. The family is so thankful to have such a supportive community! Any amount helps!
Thank you!
