Help For the Desfosses Family

Norton Detective Sergeant Stephen Desfosses was diagnosed with Covid-19, Flu A and pneumonia several weeks ago.  After struggling to improve at home for two weeks and feeling a serious decline in his ability to breathe, he was taken to the local emergency room.  He was immediately identified as being in critical condition and swiftly transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston.  Initial tests revealed blood clots in his lungs, legs, and abdomen.  More importantly, he was completely unable to maintain oxygen saturation on his own.  He has been in the ICU for a week now, receiving 100% oxygen via nasal cannula and bi-pap mask, multiple steroid medications and heparin.  Currently the blood clots are of minimal concern, as they are not interfering with any blood flow to his organs, they will break down over time with the blood thinners.  The primary concern is regaining the ability to breathe on his own.  After his first week in ICU, he is finally able to maintain stable levels of oxygen saturation, but he is not at a point that the concentration of oxygen he is receiving can be reduced.  If he continues to make small improvements, the hope is that he can move out of ICU in a week or two, to continue treatment in the regular Covid unit.  What remains to be seen is whether there is long term or irreversible damage to the lung tissue.  There is the potential for the lung tissue to become necrotic and  never recover.  Of course the hope is that with the treatment from his amazing medical staff, he can eventually return to some level or normal breathing ability.  No matter what, this process will take months.During this time, Jessica has taken leave from work to focus on their two daughters, Addison (11) and Ella (8).  Stephen's main concern, aside from returning home eventually, is that his family is taken care of.  Steve has been caring for his community for over 30 years as a highly respected Police Officer, and he and his family are incredibly grateful for the amazing outpouring of support during this devastating time!
