Fred W. Grey, Ex- Lieutenant of the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department passed away on November 19, 2016 at the young age of 44. His death was untimely and unexpected. Freddy held a number of posistions on both the business and fire end of the department and was one of the four members injured aboard Ambulance 303 at the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. He also responded to the crash of Flight 587 in Belle Harbor, Queens. He received numerous Unit Citations and the Medal of Exceptional Bravery throughout his time in Broad Channel. Fred also went on to become a member of the West Hamilton Beach VFD. His highest accomplishment in his Volunteer FD career, however, was when he was elected President of the Volunteer Firemans Association of the City of New York, representing 7 of the NYC Volunteer Fire Departments. His deep, raspy voice, great sense of humor and most of all his friendship and dedication to the brotherhood will be sorely missed amongst us all throughout the fire service.
We are raising money to assist his family with costs associated with the funeral. Please consider even a small donation, as every little bit helps and all money collected will be given to the family.
