Help for the Habib Family
Donation protected
Of the 10,000 Syrian Refugees that the US has accepted, San Diego has welcomed 1000 of them. Through Heart4Refugees Mike and I have adopted the Habib family for the holidays and beyond.
Meet Ryan (3.5), Youseff (6), Jwad (3 months) and Suleman (8), their parents are Mohammad and Suher.
They have been in the US for 5 months and are living in a 2 bedroom apartment in El Cajon. They are originally from Hamah, Syria...which has seen mass killings both in the 60's and the 80's by the Syrian military...they knew they had to leave to keep their family safe as their parents and grandparents had experienced the terror of war before them and they knew 2 years ago it was time to go. They traveled around Syria to safer cities staying with family and then stayed in Jordan for a year with family before coming to San Diego.
Mohammad is working as a chef's assistant in a tourist restaurant downtown(both he and Suher have a passion for cooking which we enjoyed talking about!), his salary just covers their rent but he is very appreciative of how kind his employers are. His plan is to work on his English and then look for better paying work. He sold cars in Syria and that is his passion. They are so incredibly gracious and appreciative of the assistance they have received from Heart4refugees.org. Their wants are small, clothing and shoes for the children, a water cooler stand for their water jugs, cleaning supplies and a laptop to communicate with family and friends.
I visited them today, Dec 19 and Mike and I plan on visiting again at their apartment in El Cajon on Dec 26. Please contact me if you have any clothing donations you'd like us to give them.
100% of the money from this campaign will go directly towards purchasing goods (their needs listed above) and paying for services for this family.
This campaign is coordinated with Heart4Refugees.org, a non profit based in San Diego that seeks to help the Syrian refugees who have been resettled here and support them during their transition to their new lives in the US.
I will not be giving funds directly to the family as Hearts4Refugees.org recommends against it. Their guidelines strongly recommend that funds be used on the families behalf via the volunteer instead, so I will withdrawal funds on the families behalf into my personal bank account and purchase items and services that they need while they make their transition to San Diego.
My name is Kim Criscuolo, I live in Solana Beach, CA with my husband and 5 year old daughter. Watching the stories coming out of Syria has been heartbreaking and I truly believe in the power of all of us as individuals– if we all do something small we can make big changes. There has never been a more important time to step up and help those who need it most.
