UPDATE on the Harris'

Hello, I am Mike Harris!

I want to start by thanking all those who have been so generous to us! You made things the past few weeks bearable. For that, I pray you are blessed 10 times as much in any area you need help. Below was the original post on GoFundMe. In case you have not read it yet. I am adding an update for those who are considering helping us to reach our goal. We are 1/3 of the way there.

However, things have gotten even more challenging. Yesterday I pulled my lower back out doing practically nothing. I have been in bed all day in severe pain unable to do anything. Also, I am dealing with shaking all the time and brain stingers that are pretty scary. My memory is all over the place. One minute I am fine and remember a lot. The next minute I can't even finish a full sentence due to forgetting what I was talking about mid-sentence.

PLEASE CONSIDER PITCHING IN!! We also need all of your prayers as it is becoming harder and harder for me to provide for my family while I am trying to learn to adjust to all of this.

• I began falling/collapsing while standing and talking to my boss, in directors' meetings and worse off, while I was training my chefs in the kitchen. I sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) during one or more of the collapsing episodes.

• I was rushed to the hospital for emergency brain surgery. I downloaded what my head looked like after surgery to give you an idea of the seriousness of the situation.

• They terminated my director of nutrition position as I had become a danger to myself and others.

• We had to sell our dream home and my car just to make ends meet. We downsized to a smaller less expensive home and maxed out all of our credit cards to help with bills etc…

• The VA diagnosed me as 100% unemployable due to the effects of brain injury and several other problems from the Marine Corps that have become debilitating.

• I am unable to keep up with my baby girls anymore as I have almost zero short-term memory and much of my long-term memory is still lost up there somewhere and it may or may not return.

• Fast forward almost a year. I applied for Social Security Disability. They denied me due to my being so young. I am taking them to court and should win. However, these things take time. It took 9 months to get my results back from Social Security. So a long drawn-out legal battle will begin in the coming months.

• An Amazon truck barreled over Nancy and the girls a week ago totaling our only vehicle. They will be giving us almost exactly what we owe on it. So, I am unemployed and without a vehicle, as we can’t get a car loan until we see how the Social Security hearings go. As I said it could drag out for a very long time.

• Nancy was diagnosed over the past few years with some serious thyroid issues and is also unable to work a real job as well. Leaving us in a bad way.

What will we do with any assistance you may provide.

• Pay several mortgage payments to give us time to regroup.

• Basic everyday needs for Nancy, the girls and myself.

• Gas, food, bills etc…
