Help for the Jaqua family
Donation protected
On April 6, Troy Jaqua was in a serious accident on his motorcycle that was not his fault. Despite the fact that his injuries were initially considered life-threatening by the Norfolk Police Department, Troy has made a remarkable comeback. He suffered multiple broken bones in his face, a bruised lung and multiple lacerations that required stitches. Most seriously, his right wrist was severely damaged. A nine-hour surgery took place on April 11 to repair his wrist, perform a tracheostomy to give him an airway while the facial fractures healed and repair the multiple broken bones in his face. He was in ICU for nearly two weeks, but he has continued to persevere.
Troy was finally able to come home from the hospital on April 22. The worries for the Jaqua family now shift from his immediate survival to how long his recovery will be and how they are going to survive financially in the meantime.
Troy will be unable to return to work for an as-yet undetermined period of time. Disability payments from his employer are a small portion of his usual take-home pay, which includes overtime. His wrist will take 10 weeks from the date of surgery (June 20) to heal, and physical therapy will follow after that. There is currently no way of knowing what the level of function of his wrist will be after it’s all said and done. As an electrician, Troy will need close to full function of his wrist.
Troy and his wife, Jen, are both Navy veterans and have two children, a 10-year-old and a 4-year-old. They are in need of money to help carry them through this period until Troy is able to return to work at his full capacity. They had very little savings, as they were working on paying off debt and were just getting to a good place financially when the accident happened. They need help to make the mortgage payment, pay for utilities, buy food and get gas for Jen to get to work and to take Troy to multiple follow-up doctor’s appointments.
If you know Troy and Jen, you know they are not typically the type of people to ask for money, but this situation not of their making has given them no choice. They will be grateful for each and every donation they get. They are generous and giving people and will definitely pay it forward.
