Help for the Knight Family

I am creating this page on behalf of my friend and co-worker, Ms. Yolanda Knight. Ms. Knight is one of the sweetest and most dedicated people I know, and right now she is having a difficult time.

One of Ms. Knight's three son's; DeVondre Shoemo, has a serious heart condition that is causing his heart muscle to deteriorate. While it is believed that this condition could be potentially due to genetics, there is also the possibility that this may have been brought on by some type of virus or bacterial infection he contracted in March 2019. Shortly after he recovered from the infection he had, he was at work and his supervisor had to take him to urgent care due to shortness of breath, and severe sweats. He was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure at that point, and he has been under Doctor's care ever since.

In November 2023, he had a defibrillator put in and is currently on the donor list for a heart transplant. He has been in and out of the local hospital here in Pensacola, Florida multiple times, but last week he was admitted to the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, FL for what was supposed to be the next 6 weeks.

Ms. Knight: being the strong black woman she is, returned back to Pensacola and to work. But today, things took a much different turn, as DeVondre had to be stabilized and is being LifeFlight transferred to Shans Hospital in Gainesville, FL for Doctors to place an LVAD System or a Left Ventricle Assistant Device. This device is designed to help his heart pump blood in a much better manner until a compatible heart can be located for him.

Ms. Yolanda must now take a leave of absence from work to be there for her son. As a parent myself, I completely understand. I'd do the same thing. However, Ms. Yolanda is worried about losing her home, having her utilities cut off, bills not getting paid; all while she is just trying to do the right thing for her son.
