Help for the Matthews Family - Garfield House Fire
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,
On Sunday January 24th, 2021 my mother Kim Matthews, my aunt Kelly Matthews and my cousin Shane lost everything in a devastating house fire in Garfield, NJ. Thankfully no one was injured or hurt. However, not all of the animals made it out safely, just a few. My mother and aunt partnered with local animal groups and fostered many kittens and cats over the years, some of which became permanent pets.
The Red Cross has helped with a hotel room for a few nights, but they will need some more support in the meantime so that they can get back on their feet. They were able to grab a few things but will need more clothes, everyday essentials, food, and prescriptions, etc. They also have to start looking for a new place to live.
At this point we are still waiting on the investigation to see how this happened but it could be weeks or months before we can get the insurance to kick in. We are not even sure if the house can even be saved or how bad the structural damage really is just yet.
We know that Covid is affecting us all in challenging ways, finances included, so any contribution is deeply appreciated. Please share if at all possible.
