In early October, Cathy Martinez, 49, was diagnosed with stage four renal cancer. This mother of eight is fighting the fight of her life. She is facing mounting medical bills, and her family needs both her and her husband’s income. They will both have to take unpaid time off of work during her fight against cancer, and some of the experimental treatments she is facing will not be covered by insurance.
Cathy was launched into the nonprofit community in Lincoln, Neb., when her son Jake was diagnosed with autism 15 years ago. She is known nationally for her autism advocacy and has been instrumental in changing state laws regarding insurance coverage for individuals with disabilities. She’s developed several programs for individuals with autism, such as a local program that unites college athletes with kids with special needs. She has organized dozens of fundraisers for families facing serious illness or hardships, for schools, and for autism families.
Now she needs your help. We want Cathy to focus on her battle with cancer, and not the house payment.
