Help for the Scarpone Family
This nightmare started when my 71-year-old husband, Mike, got a splinter in his right heel in September of 2020. But because of his neuropathy (foot pain & numbness) he never knew he had the splinter until he noticed a blood stain on his white sock a few weeks later. The splinter went unnoticed due to his condition until he saw the podiatrist who removed the splinter.
Quickly thereafter, Mike got an infection in his heel which lasted a long time and he had to be hospitalized. Because he has diabetes, it resulted in a chronic non-healing ulcer to the area. His lack of circulation required the need to undergo procedures to improve circulation. Subsequently, the procedure was unsuccessful and he underwent below-the-knee amputation.
Since the onset of his medical procedures and being in and out of hospitals and rehabs, it seemed to be the new norm. He is now in another rehab working with multiple disciplines and our hope, goal and prayer is to have Mike return home.
Mike, who retired from Polaroid, Intercontinental Air Freight and Paul's Airport parking, currently volunteers at the Norwood Food Pantry as the Assistant Executive Director and has worked there for over 11 years.
He is also a member of the Norwood Sons of Italy Lodge 1235 and is a board member.
Mike is needing to get back home to some semblance of normalcy. Healthcare coverage is very regulated and limited to many. With our fixed income, we simply can't manage Mike to get the care he desperately needs and deserves. His medicare has almost run out. Your donation will go a long way in helping us.
Thanks to all of you who sent cards, called, visited in the hospital and rehab and all other kindness you showed us during this very difficult time.
Thank you and God bless you!
