Help for the Scifres Family

On December 2nd my sister’s husband, Justin Scifres, was rushed to the emergency room with an oxygen count in the 30s! Any oxygen count lower the 60 is enough to prompt major medical concerns and even cause a person to black out. Upon arriving to the hospital the doctors in Oklahoma immediately put him in a medically induced coma and put him on a ventilator. The doctors also found that his body was full of sepsis, and there was a huge worry that his organs would not be strong enough to fight off the infection. He was in the ICU in a medical coma for 5 days while they worked on the sepsis infection and got his lungs functioning properly again. Once the doctors finally determined that his body was strong enough to try breathing on his own, they began to bring him out of sedation.

Once he was out of sedation, the doctors were extremely worried if there would be any long-lasting brain and memory issues from the lack of oxygen he had endured. He couldn’t remember his birthday, how to swallow, how to walk without assistance, or how to speak. Without being able to swallow or eat, the doctors made the decision to put him on a feeding tube. Over the past week he has made incredible strides and was actually able to come home today. But his battle and road to recovery is going to be long and grueling. Not the mention the overwhelming amount of medical bills that have already began to pile up.

Justin has a wife, Melissa, and two young children, Fiona who is 4 and Jameson who is only 2 months old. They recently moved to Oklahoma to be closer to his family, but are in desperate need of some holiday generosity to help them get back on their feet after this terrifying incident. Anything that you can do to help them salvage their Christmas season and help get them started in the New Year would truly be a blessing.
