My husband and I both have rare diseases and due to the mounting medical bills we are asking for help. My husband is currently unable to work, hopefully short term. We hate asking for help, especially financial help, but we need it.
My husband was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis in 2017 when we were pregnant with our little one. AIH is a rare disease where the body's immune system attacks the liver. This leads to cirrhosis of the liver and eventually liver failure. There is no cure for this disease only management. One of the medications he takes is an immune suppressant which helps prevents his body from attacking his liver, most of the time. However, it also means he catches every cold, virus, and flu that walks through the door which ultimately result in a flare up.
He is currently seeing a Specialist at the Mayo Clinic. This is amazing to be seen by the best of the best. However, it is costing a lot of money and they move very slowly due to the amount of patients they see. He is having new symptoms that the ER doctors and primary care doctor are telling us there is definitely something else going on in his body, they just don't know what. He is unable to work until they can at least help him manage his symptoms of whatever this new illness is.
I also have a rare disease called Gastroparesis. Essentially my stomach doesn't function the way it's supposed to and doesn't digest food properly. I am also seeing specialists at the Mayo Clinic and am going through several tests over the upcoming months to rule out any other conditions.
We are 29 years old and parents to a beautiful, energetic toddler. We hate asking for help, but we need it. Any and all donations will go towards our outstanding medical bills and help us with living expenses until Stephen is able to work. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
