In late August of 2020, the lives of Tonya and her boys were forever changed by a devastating cancer diagnosis. Chase, one of her twin 5 year old boys, had started complaining of severe leg pain. She noticed he was losing a bit of weight, and wasn’t eating as well as usual. These alerted her that something was wrong and made her push the doctor for more answers. After weeks of testing at Children’s hospital, Chase was diagnosed with Stage 4, high risk Neuroblastoma.
Neuroblastoma is an aggressive childhood cancer that usually starts in the adrenal gland and is found in the form of tumours or lesions. In Chase’s case, it has already spread to many areas including a large mass on his kidney, tumours throughout his little body, as well as in his bone marrow and lymph nodes. His treatment plan is long and difficult, and will include 8 rounds of chemotherapy, surgeries, radiation, immunotherapy and stem cell transplants.
Chase is required to stay in the lower mainland away from his home during this 18 month to 2 year journey. To accommodate this, Tonya, who is a single mom, has had to take an extended leave from work to focus on Chase as well as trying to support her other two boys. She travels back and forth between Vernon and Vancouver on a weekly basis which is difficult but necessary while they continue his treatment plan.
Chase has always been full of energy, enthusiastic and very strong. He loves bike riding and swimming, and has always been inseparable from his twin, Tyson. We hope his fighting spirit will help Chase beat down this cancer and get back home healthy.
We have set up this page to support Tonya and her boys to help ease the financial hardship they are facing. Whatever you can help with, big or small, will all add up and will definitely make a difference.
Thank you so much ❤️
