Help with treatment for Wacos chemical burns

Hi my name is Kate Pounders and I am fundraising for Wacos vet bills. Waco is a one-year-old husky mix that I just rescued 4 days ago. Waco has suffered horrifying chemical burns on over 40% of his back.

His wounds are over three weeks old meaning that Waco has been miserable for weeks. It is believed that the burns are from a meth lab explosion, or some sort of “lab gone wrong”. All we know is when the chemical hit the skin he had no way to get it off him for 2 days. 

 Waco had been living in a campground and was walking around and living in dirt and filth with this open exposed chemical wound. His ex owner had no running water and she had no food for him so he had not eaten in five days at the time that I rescued him. The owner is an active meth addict and has been unable to prove any adequate care for Wacos injuries. He was also so severely hydrated that when I pulled up the skin on the back of his neck it stuck up because there was literally no elasticity to his skin. I have never seen a dog in worse shape than Waco and I have worked with dog rescue for over 10 years.

 

Wacos bsck story:

I got a message from a friend late at night saying I needed to get this dog because he was in appalling conditions. A few hours later I picked up Waco. I have come to learn that the previous owner is addicted to meth and living in a campground in Holland Michigan, with no water and no food. Waco was walking around the campground with dirt and burs and sticks in his open exposed burns for 3 weeks 

There is a large wound on his leg where you can see that the chemical liquid splattered on his skin and then drip down to his leg and there was no way for him to get it off.

 

 

His upcoming treatments- 

Starting today Waco will need to be brought into the vet for new bandaging every single day for the next week. After the first week we will need to bring him in every two days for changing the bandages out. Dr. M is very confident that it is the best treatment for him.

 

Every time Waco has his bandages changed it is $196. Every three days he will have an IV opiate painkiller administered via injection which is an additional $40-$50 every 72 hours.

Waco will need to be sedated for every visit so the staff can change his bandages. 

This treatment will go on for at least the next four weeks. 

 

Right now I am focusing solely on getting these chemicsl burns healed, but we do also know that before he can be adopted out into a forever home he will also need to be neutered and up-to-date on shots because he has not had any of the basic wellness care a young dog should have.

All of the funds will be used to go directly to Wacos vet bills, if by chance there is any extra it will go towards his neutering and shots/microchipping and supplies for his future life.

 

For now, Waco is safe and he is on pain meds/antibiotics/sedatives so he is not feeling any of these burns.

Even when these injuries he is so happy and he just wants to play with other dogs and be a normal dog.

The entire vet staff is so invested in his journey and we could not be more lucky that we found the perfect place for Waco to start his new life .
