Help Former Foster Youth Spread Positivity

Adoptive Moms Are Great! (¡Las Mamás Adoptivas Son Geniales!) and the companion book, Adoptive Dads Are Awesome ! (¡Los Papás Adoptivos Son Increíbles!) are nonfiction picture books for children that aim to create an early opportunity for openness towards adoptive parents, despite the various circumstances that have led to the adoption. The author (10-year-old adoptee) presents a case for how adoptive parents are able to provide a safe and loving home and are open to children with all sorts of differences. The books show children positive images of diversity in relationships and are inclusive of minority populations.
Not only will financial backers be supporting the young author’s publishing dream, but they will be helping to spread a healing message to children all over the world in both English and Spanish.
Final Deliverables:
Two dual-language children’s picture books in paperback and e-book formats with worldwide distribution. Specs: 34-pages, full color, glossy cover, nonfiction, 8x10. Retail pricing is anticipated to be $12.99 USD (paperback) and $4.99 (e-book). Royalties will be directed into a college savings account for the young author.
**If funding received goes above and beyond the requested amount, the publisher will use any surplus to purchase physical copies of books to be donated to foster and adoptive families in the author’s local city and/or state.
From the Author:
Losing a mommy is very painful. I lost mine when I was little. For a long time, it was hard to figure out how to love and accept my new adoptive parents. I especially thought I could never, ever love another mom. It was scary to trust someone new! Over time, I learned adopted parents are not so scary. That’s why I wrote this story. I want other kids to feel more open to their new family. I hope that my story will help children to have an easier time adjusting.
In my new picture books, I encourage children who have been through or may go through an adoption. I thought of all the questions and fears I had and tried to answer as many of those questions as I could. I show them what they can expect from an adoptive parent: kindness, protection, love, and acceptance. This is an especially important message for children who are a different race than their new family, like me, or for those who have a disability as many do.
My book is unique from others because it focuses on what to expect with a new mom
instead of the context in which it occurs. I know there is a lot of pain involved when we lose a
parent, but it is important to stay open to healing and allowing new relationships to form.
