Help Foster Survivor Start a New Life

Hello. We are Jo and Jerry, and we are fundraising for a 26-year-old woman whose life has now reached a crossroads. She spent almost her entire childhood in foster care, and she is now at the stage of her life where she is trying to break out of the cycle of poverty, something that, sadly, many former foster kids cannot accomplish.

She is currently living out of a car, which by itself is horrible. She also can fit all of her belongings — everything in the world she owns — into the trunk of that same car. The challenge that she faces is a daunting one.

In the face of this adversity, she has managed to secure an opportunity for full-time employment working on a local horse farm, taking care of the animals there and helping out the owner. For her, this could be the start of a different, more stable, more rewarding, more promising life.

To help her, we are hoping to raise the money for her to purchase a very used RV, which she could park on the farm and use for housing. For her to have a job and a place to live other than a car would be life-changing for her and provide her the beginnings of some security, upon which she can build a new life.

The picture we've used on this page is one of the sun over the ocean. Is it a sunrise, or is it a sunset? For most of us, the lucky ones who've never had to live in such poverty and struggle, it's just a pretty picture. For this young woman, it's a metaphor that perfectly describes where she now stands in her life.
