Help Franciane's Family Rebuild After Flood

Hi, my name is Franciane Leite. I live in New Orleans United States with my partner . I am a nurse graduate and currently unemployed since my partner and I are moving to a different State. I am originally from Brazil, the south of the country, and I moved to the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico in 2017, and last year recently moved to New Orleans , United States. All my family is currently in Brazil , including my mom, my dad, my brother, my sister. I love them greatly and they mean the world to me, they are the most supportive people and most loving people who have always helped me when I needed, so now it’s my turn to return the favor.

I am fundraising to help them. They live in the southern State of Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil. The South of Brazil was recently affected by heavy rains , and 70% of the city where my parents live at ( Canoas) , is under water. Over 180,000 families are without a roof and they have lost everything, including my family. They resided at one story cement home, which was greatly affected by the flood as it is now completely underwater, you can’t even see the house from above as it’s completely submerged, even two story homes were under water as the flood was the most significant one we had since the last 50 years. My family spent the night on the roof of the second floor of my aunt’s house who lives in the neighborhood, and they were all night waiting to be rescued, and thankfully a volunteer boat came to save them, if it was not for the volunteer work they would’ve been dead , as Brazilian government is very inefficient .

As you can imagine, they have lost everything , furniture, clothes , electronics , family pictures , and even my dad’s car was taken away with the waters from the flood. All the money I am raising goes directly to help them rebuild , and as well to get medications and daily life supplies, such as hygiene products , food and water. I can provide a receipt of the transaction of me sending all the money to my mom’s bank account. I am not asking for much , as the Brazilian currency is worth 5 times less than U.S. dollar at the moment , and any amount even just $3 helps greatly. I appreciate any donation , this will help them recover faster and have some dignity in life , as they’re living in a shelter along with other people who have lost everything. They don’t even have mattresses enough for all the people there, some people are sleeping on the floor. My mom and my aunt have a mattress but my dad and brother sleep on the floor with some bedsheets and a pillow.

Once they leave the shelter , they will need to rebuild everything, and they don’t have enough money saved to an emergency fund since the economy in Brazil is currently very bad, and my family doesn’t come from money. I wish I had the resources to help them, but I have many bills to pay at the moment and don’t have an emergency fund either to help them. But I guarantee that all the money received will be used for a very good cause.
