Help Frank Rebuild From Wildfire

Donation protected

On the afternoon of July 6, the Klamath County Bootleg Fire started about 15 miles northwest of the town of Beatty, Oregon. It grew to 300 acres pretty quickly and exponentially overnight. In 48 hours it had grown to over 40,000 acres and Moondance Ranch lay directly in its path. The fire destroyed every structure on the property and burned lots and lots of trees.

Frank Smith has been the caretaker at Moondance Ranch along with his two fantastic Husky mix dogs since 2018. He has protected the property, cut and split firewood, fixed fences, chased the neighbors’ wayward cows and other chores as needed.

Frank lost everything he owned in the fire, but was able to safely evacuate with his puppies.

Frank is a US Air Force veteran, hails from the indigenous Lakota Tribe with a wee bit of Irish woven in, is incredibly kind, honest, helpful, dependable and super interesting.

He now finds himself unhoused, without employment and with a truck that has seen a lot of wear and tear. Supporting Frank now both financially and emotionally is urgent with his housing situation and important to feel the love we have for who he is and how he shows up in the world.

The trauma of experiencing and surviving a massive wildfire is real and your generosity will help us exceed our goal and help to heal and house Frank for the near term and beyond.
