Help Fund a Detroit-Based Internet Radio Station!

BLUE MOON RADIO is a community radio station that features emerging and established Detroit DJs, storytellers, talk show hosts, producers, and other communications-oriented sonic lovers- especially highlighting Detroit’s legacy of experimental and genre-bending Black music. BLUE MOON RADIO hopes to have the capabilities to play Vinyl, Digital files, CDs, Cassettes, live audio, and other methods of sharing information during broadcasts. We want to have a call in line for community participation, and we are committed to collaborative, fun, and equitable projects around music and sound.

We are looking for support as we begin this community project. We need your help to get our startup gear to launch the station! We are looking for supplies and equipment that we need for the station through crowdfunding and in-kind gifts to the station. Here are the things we want to purchase:

- Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX2 ($1800)

- Microphones ($200)

- Booth Monitors ($200)

- PLX500 Turntables x2 ($500) ✅

- Needles ($200, Ortofon concord mk2 or equivalent) ✅

- Headphones x3 ($150) ✅

- Audio Interface ($100; Donated) ✅

- Microphone Stands ($75) ✅

- 2 XLR Cables ($30) ✅

- 2 RCA Cables ($20) ✅

BLUE MOON RADIO aims to be an accessible sonic resource for Detroiters: for those just starting out and for those dedicated to the craft. Having experienced the lack of entry-level spaces to experiment and have fun with music, we want to provide a space to aid in shifting local music culture towards collaboration and generosity.

We are committed to Detroit, and we want Detroiters to be the core of our programming- we have committed to having a minimum of 50% of our programming produced by Detroit homegrown and current residents. We are also committed to providing teaching tools for our community (Each one, Teach one!) We aim to hold beginning, intermediate, and masterclasses for our community regarding DJing, music production, musical collaborations, artist sustainability, event curation, and more. We want our community to be equipped to support local music beyond us, and we believe that workshops and masterclasses are a good start.

BLUE MOON RADIO’s launch date is August 30th, 2023- details coming soon! We are holding a day party to celebrate the official birth of this beautiful resource! After the launch party, we will begin weekend programming only- with a small number of one-off shows, and then after residents. We believe in growing at the rate of sustainability, and we are committed to sharing our plan to grow our capacity with the community on our website and social media.

Weekend programming will go on Saturdays and Sundays through the first three months, with plans to expand into the week as our volunteer and core team can support everyone. We intend for BLUE MOON RADIO to become a communally controlled and operated resource, will full-week programming.
