Help Fund a New Short Film by Acclaimed Composer

Hello, I’m a 3rd generation, conservatory educated award winning composer, musician and filmmaker, looking to get help with funding for my next short film. While I wrote the original script just over 10 years ago, it seems to point to what we are currently experiencing in current lives, but as it is meant to be an art house indy short, it’s really upto the viewer to decide what they draw from it. A retired film historian has compared my style to Alfred Hitchcock after seeing some of my shorts, saying that the style reminded them of the legendary film maker, yet still my own.

At the moment, I am considering an animated film, which is a first time for me.

Previously I had few characters and served as a writer, director, producer, composer and I scored them myself. This script requires more characters and it would be about 7 minutes long. I’m looking to start with animation version and submit it to festivals and for grants, to perhaps make it with actors there after, or to make a longer version.

I’m mainly an artist at heart, a musician in my soul and a political analyst/philosophical thinker in my mind. Most of my works will make people wonder, ponder and learn or analyse it themselves. As my main way of earning is through music and COVID affected my teaching and ability to have stable employment after returning to USA, I am here to ask for some support.

I understand this would not make me a wealthy man, but it has a very important, intellectual and debatable message. What amazes me and many who have read my script over the years as well as recently, is how long ago it was written and how relevant it currently is.

I have attempted to do research and reach out to film or art schools and understandably no one should work for free on somebody’s idea… Your money will be funding the artist and sound engineers salaries. I am willing to not be paid, I just want to be able to realise this artistic dream, some way, somehow! I currently live with my new ‘family’, my significant other and her twice exceptional son, in affordable housing, where 30% of all gross income counts towards rent. $3,000 is what I was quoted it would cost to make a high quality animation for my script, by artist who understands my vision, or even a senior at one of the best art schools in USA. To make my film as ultra low budget, but with actors, etc, would run between $6,000 - $8,000.

I am barely earning to pay bills and rent at the moment, and that is why I decided to let go of my ego, to ask for help with funding this personal dream.

I understand these aren’t easy times for everyone. Any amount will be valued and wholeheartedly appreciated! Whatever I raise, will determine if I can keep this film “created/filmed & made in America”. It may affect quality or I will try to add whatever little I can save up.

Live stream will only have my original work, due to copyright issues.
