Help Fund Anita's Trips to and from the Hospital

Anita and Jody have been important members of the Cowichan Bay community. Jody has been a carpenter/handyman in the area quick to come to the aid of those who can't help themselves. Many will have seen Anita's smiling face over the years at either Pier 66 Market or at Classic Marine. She has worked hard to be sure that the people in her tight-knit community have what they need to live their "Nauti Lives" as she might say.
However, on May 27th, two drunk men attacked Jody. He was airlifted from the dock to the hospital in Victoria. He sustained two cracks in his skull and had haemorrhaging his left frontal cortex. The doctors rushed him into surgery to remove a piece of his skull (to allow for swelling) and then also removed a section of his left frontal lobe. He is currently in a medically induced coma and will be for the next 7-10 days. Doctors anticipate that even after Jody wakes up, he will be in the hospital for many months- it could even be upwards of a year.
Since the attack, Anita has been travelling back and forth from the Bay to the Victoria Hospital to check on Jody's progress and be there for him in case he wakes up. She has just returned to work after a long medical leave and hasn't been working much longer than a month. Therefore, she doesn't have a whole lot of money to spend on things like fuel, parking at the hospital, and any of the associated costs with maintenance to her truck.
Because of the medical leave that she just returned to work from, Anita is on a very specific diet and needs to eat regular meals throughout the day. As you can imagine, travelling over the Malahat often and being in a hospital, isn't very conducive to regular diets. Other generous folks in the Bay have made sure that she has access to a 12-volt cooler that can be run through her truck. Stocking said cooler is another cost in and of itself.
Here are the approximate costs: By using a Trip Planner (thanks to Gas Buddy) I have calculated that Anita will be spending approximately $20 per trip (at least) to Victoria and back again. That means that she will spend approximately $600 in fuel in a month. Parking at the hospital costs $4 for the first hour and $2 for every half hour after that. There is a maximum charge of $12 for people staying at the hospital for longer than 3 hours. That brings us up to about $360 a month in parking fees. So... We're looking at an approximate monthly cost of $1320. Some costs will be more, some will be less. But the important thing to note here is that these costs will likely be monthly for as long as it takes to bring Jody home. I've set our goal to $1000 for now, but I (of course) hope to go above and beyond that goal in hopes of covering costs for many months to come. If you can't donate money but would still like to help there are a few things that you can do. First, share the GoFundMe page. The more people who see our page the more likely someone will be able to donate to the cause! Secondly, both Jody and Anita have boats in the Cow Bay harbour. In order to cut down on costs, Anita is hoping to get one of the boats out of the water and into storage (generously donated by Marlin Motors). In order to get a 26' Bayliner out of the water, Anita is looking to get access to a boat trailer for a day or two. This will save them many months of moorage fees. We need this as soon as physically possible. So, if you live in the area and have a trailer big enough, it would be great to get some help! ((Edit: The boat has been taken care of! Thank you!!))
Finally, just keep them in your thoughts, prayers, good vibes- whatever it is you believe in. These are just two good people who need a hand. The internet is full of good people who like helping good people. I'm hoping that you'll do just that.
