Help Fund Asian American Photo Project
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Kannetha, I am a Cambodian American photo student at MassArt looking to fund my project in my community of Asian Americans in Rhode Island. I need funding for film, equipment, darkroom supplies, travel, and exhibition funds. I plan on turning this project into a book and working on it for at least 2 years. This project is being shot in black and white, with an 8x10 large format film camera. This camera has an extensive history of BIPOC exploitation, especially with Asian immigration photographs. For my own Khmer community, the Khmer Rouge used black and white film and darkroom printing to make photos of their genocide victims. I must reclaim these experiences. It is also a major privilege and a fantastic opportunity to be using this camera. This is a super expensive medium; 1 box of 25 sheets of film costs $179, and 1 box of 100 sheets of darkroom paper costs $150, in addition to saving up to buy frames, printing paper, and the camera itself after I graduate. I hope that you see the importance of this project and how it has impacted my community. A small donation would even mean a lot to me.
