My father spent his life helping all of those around him until he suffered a massive stroke in October 2020. He was a son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many. Prior to his stroke, he made it his life’s work to support his family, friends and loved ones in any way he could. He was the “never-say-no" Granddaddy who loved going on adventures and spending time with his family whenever he wasn’t working, driving across the country.
The stroke changed my father's life dramatically. He became paralyzed on the entire left side of his body, suffered from vascular dementia and many other diagnoses. Due to this, he became permanently disabled, unable to work, causing him to lose his job, insurance and life insurance. After being cared for by me and my children for 15 months, I tried to have his other daughter care for him. After only one month, his other "daughters" abandoned him in a hospital for 3 months and refused to tell me. Eventually the hospital found me. Working together with the hospital, I had him transferred back to our hometown and he went into a nursing home. He went to 2 different homes, being abused and neglected, abandoned by all his "children and family" except for me. After multiple complaints to the State, I removed my father from the nursing home. I stopped working and became his full-time caretaker without any pay, income or help from "family."
As time went by, my father's conditions worsened. Ultimately, his wishes were followed through to the very end, with still no word or help from "family" other than myself and my children. He passed away in our home on November 3, 2024.
He will forever be remembered and loved by those left behind.
I am asking for any help possible to help pay for funeral and memorial expenses, as well as other expenses incurred over the past nine months of his care.
