Hi My name is Kaylee & I’m raising funds for my coworker Emily!
Emily Barry's dedication to horseback riding has been a cornerstone of her life for over a decade. From her early days in middle school, she has tirelessly pursued her passion, working extra shifts as a young teen to afford riding lessons and horse shows. Recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from UBC Okanagan, Emily is now preparing for law school, with a focus on Indigenous law—a path reflecting her deep connection to her heritage as a member of the Sandy Bay Ojibwe Nation. She is in the process of attempting the LSAT, while still working full time as a server and bartender by night to continue feeding her passion for showjumping.
Tragically, on June 24th, 2024, Emily's journey was abruptly interrupted. While en route from Kelowna to Langley to compete at Thunderbird Show Park for two weeks, her car was involved in a devastating accident along with three other vehicles. Luckily no one was seriously injured, and Emily was able to exit her vehicle. Shortly afterwards, Emily’s vehicle was engulfed in fire, consuming not only the majority of her personal belongings but also ALL of her horse-related equipment and attire. Years of hard work and dedication, amounting to well over ten thousand dollars in losses, went up in flames.
Emily is currently navigating insurance claims, but the outlook is uncertain. The financial burden of replacing essential equipment, from a saddle and other tack to horse medications and supplements, is daunting. Moreover, the loss extends to basic necessities like clothing and personal items, further complicating her ability to recover.
How Your Donations Will Help: Your support will directly aid Emily in rebuilding her life's passion for horseback riding. Donations will cover the cost of replacing all lost equipment and attire essential for her continued participation in the sport. This includes a saddle, other tack, riding clothes, and crucial medications for her horse. Additionally, your contribution will help alleviate the immediate financial strain of replacing personal belongings lost in the fire.
The accident has not only taken a toll on Emily's belongings but also threatens her ability to continue paying for her horse's board and lessons, which she has managed diligently since her teenage years.
Emily's resilience shines through her ambition to become a lawyer specializing in Indigenous law. Her dream includes someday affording a horse capable of excelling in competitive show jumping at the highest level—a testament to her unwavering determination and dedication to overcoming adversity.
Your generosity, regardless of the amount, will make a profound impact on Emily’s journey to rebuild and pursue her aspirations. By standing with Emily during this challenging time, you empower her to continue pursuing her passion for horses and achieving her goals in law and beyond.
Thank you for your compassion and generosity towards Emily's cause. Your contribution not only helps her recover from a devastating loss but also enables her to continue striving towards her dreams with resilience and hope.
