Help Michele beat Leukemia!

Donation protected
On August 17, 2018, after getting a regular blood test due to a headache that wouldn't go away, our dearest and long time best friend, Michele Cheng was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia (ALL). For those that don't know, ALL is a cancer of the blood and occurs when blood cells in the bone marrow malfunctions; which forms cancerous cells (that can invade the organs) -- eventually taking over the normal blood cells.

It all started with simple symptoms - minor headaches, nausea (because she thought she was car sick), exhaustion -- she thought she was just tired from a long day and taking care of her 1 year old son. She decided to go to the doctor's to check it out, since the headaches wouldn't go away. Since she had her son, she hasn't had a full body checkup and decided to ask the doctor to get a blood test. Who knew that random moment and decision she made would forever change her life. She was admitted to the hospital immediately that night -- still trying to process and understand why this was happening to her, and that it was all so sudden.

Many of us that knows Michele (or for those that don't know her) will know her for her sincere generosity, carefree personality and will always go out of her way to help others. She will never ask for anything in return, and always wishes the best for everyone. She is cheerful and happy, and always puts her friends and family first before herself.

Treatment and Road to Recovery:

Michele's immune system is very weak and cannot fight any infections. She's been getting non-stop fevers since August 28th, which doctors suspect may be an infection from the lung or other areas of the body. On September 3rd, Michele had to get another round of blood transfusion due to the blood level dropping and severe headaches from being anemic. She completed her first round of chemotherapy on September 6th. Sadly, the results came back and it wasn't good - only 30% worked.

She started her second round of chemotherapy on September 14th, each dose being stronger than the previous. On September 22nd, the doctors told her that she had a fungal infection and had to take her chest port out and be transferred to the ICU. She started losing hope, and feels like she's fighting a losing battle. She is almost done with her second round of chemotherapy, and results are showing that there are still hidden pockets of bad cancer cell.

She is waiting to find a match for a bone marrow transplant, which she'll need to do as her next step after chemotherapy.

It's been 45+ days (and counting) that Michele has been in the hospital. Throughout this whole time, her husband has taken medical leave from work - juggling to care for her and their 1 year old son.

Your Donations:

Even though her husband's medical insurance will cover some of the cost of Michele's care, it's likely there will be a lot more expensive bills as she's going through recovery; in which coverage will eventually be limited. On behalf of Michele's family and friends, we want to help raise some funds to help them financially as they are going through this tough battle. All donations will go to Michele and her family to help pay for their medical expenses.

If you can keep her in your prayers, and make a donation - no matter what amount - anything counts and is greatly appreciated. Please share this with your friends and family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Michele has a long journey to recovery and it's a very tough battle to fight - so let's help her beat this!
