Help Fund Janie Callahan's Peaceful Farewell

My mother, Janie Callahan, passed away unexpectedly on June 22, 2024. Janie was one of the most well respected Montessori teachers of all time, and the best mom I could have ever asked for. A lot of you knew her very well, and knew how kind and generous she was, despite not having the easiest life.

The last few years of her life were incredibly hard for her. After my little brother, her son Ryan, passed away, Janie's brother took control of her personal and financial guardianship duties. It was a very unfortunate situation.

In the last few months she was alive I was fighting and advocating with her to have her brother removed as her guardian due to the fact that he was not fulfilling any of his guardianship duties.

Three weeks ago we attended a hearing in court that I had initiated with my mom and her lawyer. The hearing was to terminate her abusive, neglectful brother as her guardian. Unfortunately my mom passed away before the ruling was finalized.

My mom never had a lot of money. She was never truly able to enjoy the money that she received from the tragic brain injury that stole her quality of life in 2013.

I am doing this Gofundme to pay for her funeral as well as an urn for her ashes to go into. I must have 80% of the funds before the service is able to take place and her family is completely absent during this time.

There have been *complications* with her entire family. I currently have no way to pay for her funeral costs, or final obligations. This is something that is usually done by guardian.

All I want is to be able to give my mom a beautiful celebration to honor her life and the beauty that she brought into the world. She deserves a service that is as peaceful as she tried to lived her life. She was a beautiful person and will be missed by many.

My heart and gratitude go out to anyone who is able to help me lay my beautiful mother to rest. The funeral is set for the 2nd of July. Thank you very much.
