ABOUT THE RECORD YOU’RE HELPING ME FUND:

I've been working on the songs for this next record for the last three years. Right from its inception, I knew this record was going to be different. Somewhere inside me, I was aware that in order to bring this specific project to the finish line, I would need people to help me. This is something I am not too keen on. Receiving help does not come naturally to me. And collaborating? Hell no. Not me. Too much trust! Too much risk!

There is something mystic about these songs. Despite my greatest efforts, all but one stopped short of completion. This is something that has never happened to me before. Typically, if I wait on a song that is meant to be written, it finds it's ending. It's been that way since I was a kid. It taught me patience and creative discernment. But this time, I waited and the songs waited right back. A few of them waited for over two years. They were so stubborn and serious in their purpose. They wouldn't unlock until I brought somebody in. And with some time, it became clear to me that I already had the perfect teammate, my long time friend, bandmate, and co-writer Josh Flowers. I told him about the songs in waiting, and within a handful of long-distance writing sessions, we finished every song. Every! Song! And each felt more joyful than the last. The body of work eased and became limber with Josh in the room, and I began to experience the relief of creative support.

Honestly, I am tired of doing this alone. And I really have made a habit of it. So, in an act of faith (and because the songs have told me so), I have drawn up a budget that far exceeds what I could fund on my own. I am hiring my favorite musicians. I am renting a beautiful room. And I am following the path towards others. My asking for your help is part of the lesson I am learning. I need you. Your joy and generosity. Your words of encouragement. It is the secret sauce.

Here is a rough outline of how I will be spending the money you give me (subject to change, but more or less this is it!):

$6,000 goes to musicians

$3,500 goes to my producer

$7,000 for booking a studio

$8,000 is for mixing and mastering

$3,000 documentarian

$4,000 flights and accommodation 

No donation is too small! No donation is too large!! Or too medium, for that matter. Just thank you for being here. I can't believe I get to do this as my job. I am already the luckiest gal on the planet.
