Dear Friends and Family,
I’m reaching out on behalf of my daughter Savannah and her partner Devon with an important update. On Saturday, April 12th, at 9:34 AM, Savannah welcomed her beautiful baby girl, Maisie Rose, into the world. Born four weeks premature due to what seemed like minor complications, Maisie weighed a healthy 5 lbs, 11.9 oz for a preemie, giving us hope she’d thrive.
Initially, things looked promising, though Maisie’s oxygen levels fluctuated. The medical team worked tirelessly to stabilize her. As the day went on, Savannah noticed Maisie was struggling—she was aspirating fluids and couldn’t keep feedings down. Concerned, the doctors ordered imaging, and the results were devastating. Savannah and Devon learned Maisie has a life-threatening condition called Esophageal Atresia, a rare defect where the esophagus forms in two unconnected segments during early pregnancy. This means breast milk or formula cannot reach her stomach, preventing normal nutrition.
To give Maisie the urgent care she needs, she was airlifted early this morning to Children’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN. There, doctors inserted a feeding tube through her umbilical cord and a second tube in her airway to protect her lungs from fluid buildup. The medical team is now developing a plan for surgery to repair her esophagus, offering hope for her recovery.
As you can imagine, Savannah and Devon are facing significant challenges—not only the emotional weight of Maisie’s condition but also mounting costs for medical care, hospital stays, lodging, and meals while they remain by her side. Savannah and Devon are incredibly kind, generous people who would give anything to help others. Now, they need our support. Any contribution, no matter the size, will go directly toward Maisie’s care and their expenses during this difficult time.
We plan to create a CaringBridge page soon to keep you updated on Maisie Rose’s journey. For now, we ask for your prayers and love as our family navigates this challenging road. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
With gratitude,
❤️ Grandma Nicole
