Mum’s Fight Against Rare Cancer: Every Moment Counts

The Journey So Far

Earlier this year, my Mum was diagnosed with a fibroid that led to post-menopausal bleeding. Initially, we went through the NHS but encountered lengthy delays and neglect. Eventually, we went private and discovered that Mum needed a full hysterectomy to remove the unusually large fibroid. After the surgery, a biopsy revealed the devastating news: the fibroid was actually a rare and aggressive form of cancer called leiomyosarcoma.

The Moment We Feared

Following this diagnosis, Mum was scheduled for radiotherapy in London to ensure that no cancer cells remained. However, before the treatment could begin, further scans revealed that the cancer had returned to her pelvic area and spread to her lungs. We were told that the conventional path of radio and chemotherapy would only slow the cancer down for a time, and that it would eventually kill her.
