Help Fund My Latest Project

Hi, I'm Sara Erenthal. I'm a Brooklyn-based, multi-disciplinary artist focusing on themes of displacement, survival, and liberation. You might recognize me from my murals or the up-cycled art that I create by drawing on discarded objects in the streets.

When I was 17, I left my home to avoid an arranged marriage. I grew up in an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community where such marriages are the norm.

I pursue my art as a way of existence, healing and liberation. Art has given me a voice and creating it enables me to reach others who might be going through similar experiences and to give them hope.

What will I be doing?

On January 9, I'm flying to Tel Aviv for a month to paint murals, give the discarded new life, and do activist work connected to my past in hopes of reaching people with a similar journey to mine.

Three births:

Because of my past, Israel holds a special place in my personal journey. It is where I was born and spent the first years of my life. At the age of 17, I found myself there once again when my family moved back. That was where I broke away from my community and where I began to build a life for the first time in the secular world. It is also where I had my first show as a self-proclaimed artist many years later, while on a two year backpacking journey which was the start of my transition to living my life as an artist.

I've wanted to do this project for a long time. For me, it's significant to return now as an established artist having had solo shows, media features, etc. I'm ready to take my work international and have chosen Israel as the first stop.

There are many people in Israel like me who enter secular life at a later age and find themselves disoriented and unwelcomed. I want to spread my messages of liberation, freedom and self-love, as I've been doing on the streets of New York. I want to plant hope there, too.

To do this, I need support. I'm fortunate enough to be able to partially fund this project myself, but I need help covering daily expenses and art supplies.

Having devoted so much of my time and money to make art accessible to the public in New York City, I am asking for your support in continuing this and bringing my art to different corners of the world.

Big or small, every contribution helps. Even if you can’t contribute financially, please help spread the word. A Facebook post or an email to friends can go a long way in generating support.

Thank you for your time. I'll be posting updates of my journey here and on my Instagram so you can experience my daily creations on the road.
