In 2020, Amber started a tiny Oddity shop in the beautiful Belmont neighborhood of Portland, Oregon called, The Skeleton Key. At just 650 Square feet, the tiny shop managed to endure the economic hardship of the pandemic. During those tough times, the tiny shop also faced rising crime in the area and was tormented by the growing drug use and homelessness in the area. The tiny shop was burglarized, vandalized and crippled by constant theft and became an unsafe place to work at times. Regardless of this, the tiny shop endured. In 2023 the lease expired and the rent was raised.
This is when Amber was faced with a choice, to keep the shop at the tiny location with no bathroom, or to look elsewhere for a more viable option. With this in mind, there was a larger dream on the horizon, one that involved the curation and preservation of Historical Oddities. The vision is to present Historical Oddities to the public in an educational and interactive Museum style format.
Daniel came on board as an enthusiastic partner. Together Amber and Daniel have relocated the Skeleton Key to a 4200 square foot space that had been vacant for the past few years (939 SW 10th Ave, Porltand OR. 97205). The goal is to create a space where history and magic coexist.
The new name, The Skeleton Key Odditorium, is expected to be one of the Pacific Northwest's most unique shops. The space offers a variety of oddities, local gothic art, antiques, and macabre curiosities with a touch of magic. In June 2023, The Skeleton Key Odditorium will open its Museum experience, showcasing historical oddities, the macabre and magical relics.
In addition to being passionate about the preservation of historical oddities and artifacts, Amber and Daniel want to help Portland thrive and are committed to the revitalization of our beautiful city. With the creation of such a place in the heart of the Museum District, The Odditorium hopes to encourage tourism, and enthusiasm for our peculiar histories.
Amber and Daniel need some help. With finances stretched thin, we are asking for donations to help curate and design the space. The donations will go toward building and fabricating exhibits, displays and lighting installations.
Donors can remain anonymous. However, if you use your name and contribute over $100 to our cause, we would like to offer a year of complimentary visits to the museum.
Thank you,
Amber & Daniel
