Help Fund The 1st Black Owned Rock Network Studio

PUNK BLACK is an Atlanta-based, multi-media collective of organizers, artists, punks and Blerds who are committed to creating radically inclusive space for BIPOC creatives. After performing in ATL and beyond for years we realized there was a clear need for safe alt-space for Black and brown punks on a national scale. PUNK BLACK launched in 2015, hosting over 70 events across the U.S., including Brooklyn, Oakland, Chicago, Washington DC and more. In just a few short years, this Black-run indy collective has created a safe space for Black outkasts, weirdos, activists, leftists, antifascists, punks and goonies from all over, united in a love of music, art, dank memes and anime.

Creating alternative space, building a base of supporters, intentionally curating our scene and events as being pro-Black, pro-hoe, pro-queer, anti-fascist and anti-sellout...is cultural organizing; this is heart-feeding, suicide prevention work; this is existence at the intersections of art and activism, rotating on the axis of Blackness.

Over time, it has become crystal clear that creating truly safe space for Black alt-youth requires having physical space to occupy. We need our home and are committed to building it. We are raising funds to open the first ever Black owned Rock, Art and Nerd lore Studio in Atlanta. The studio will be our centerpiece and base of operations in featuring, promoting and nurturing the talents of Black & brown people of color in the rock, art, cosplay and nerd communities. Like CBGB, Black and brown rockers and creatives deserve a historic hub for the new generation. We will build it, and appreciate your support.

Budget Narrative:

Being a Black creative is very expensive. There’s no guaranteed job with guaranteed income at a place that highers you. Most artists find themselves struggling in hopes they’ll be one of the rare few to *blow up*. We imagine a world where Black artists can thrive, having creative space built for and by them that doesn't cost an arm or a leg; space for collaboration, community building and putting our people on.

Raising enough funds to open PUNK BLACK Studios will allow us to record content, host events and be a hub for Black and POC communities in rock music, cosplay, nerd, and art culture. Some dope examples of this would be:

Offering a Low cost space for bands to record videos

Music videos are one of the key ways for bands to reach their audience. Having access to equipment essential to this process.

Level the playing field for lower-income Black and brown punks to record music and create music videos to push their careers

Recording, mixing and mastering music for bands

Cosplay photoshoots:
Almost 50% of US consumers believe that high quality images is the #1 determining factor in purchasing a product. We’ve all seen what income disparity can do when it comes to quality product, presentation and thus, growing your base and following. We want to support cosplayers as they move forward in their careers.

Filming series, documenting this current historical moment of Black & POC folks
Historic moment; this is history; Black and brown alt scene now.
2020 decade and coup attempt. Historical importance of music and art coming out now. Shaping and reflecting the current culture. Important to capture and document.
