Help fund the design of the Adventure 40!

The Adventure 40 is a reliable, safe, fun and great-value-for-money blue-water cruiser, unique among the range of vessels being offered by manufacturers today. As envisioned by John Harries at Attainable Adventure Cruising (AAC), it will provide its owner with:
  • the joy of sailing a highly seamanlike vessel,
  • the ability to execute safe & fast ocean passages,
  • the comfort of a gentle, sea-kindly motion,
  • the peace of mind of an extremely strong build and moderate maintenance time,
  • the practicality of a large payload,
  • a layout that allows any couple to live aboard full-time,
all this at the best possible long-term cost of ownership.

To achieve this vision, the project will rely on mass-production, will combine the best of maritime experience with modern design techniques, will focus on needs rather than fashions, will prioritize the best construction techniques and equipment over unnecessary complexity, and will keep a strong focus on serving its core mission rather than trying to appeal to any customer.

The Adventure 40 will be designed by experienced naval architect Vincent Lebailly (www.vincentlebailly.fr), and be built in France, where one of the very best, and for sure the largest, sailboat industry is to be found.

The complete story of the Adventure 40 is told at https://www.morganscloud.com/category/boat-design-selection/adventure-40/, where John Harries will continue to report, with a vigilant eye, on our progress, and where AAC members will continue to add their sailing knowledge & wisdom to each new article.

I (Maxime Gérardin) am investing my time in the creation of the project company for the Adventure 40: the Limosa Workshop, named after the genus of seabirds that hold records for non-stop transoceanic flights. I'm also ready to cover the costs of drawing the preliminary design, and, after this preliminary design is complete, of travelling to meet the prospective builders, so as to determine the best industrial organization for building the Adventure 40 to our exacting requirements.

These costs, not counting my time, amount to a total of at least €12,000. Once these steps have been covered, the project will have reached the stage where it can gather the large investment needed to launch the first builds.

In the current stage, I will cover the difference between the community’s donations and the total cost of the preliminary design. It will proceed no matter what. However, your help speeds the process and puts the future of the Adventure 40 on a more solid footing!

By adding your name to the list of donors, you will:
  • tell all members of the project – including John Harries, Vincent Lebailly, myself (Maxime Gérardin), visual designer Scott Arenz who created the above logo, our families, and all community contributors, that our time on the project is well-spent,
  • send a message to the sailboat industry in France, and especially to the prospective builders, but also to the suppliers who are already helping us to define the best solutions, that this project is not just the pipedream of a few persons, but is backed by a real crowd of enthusiasts eager to see it turn into reality - a crowd large enough that, when time comes, the first buyers will spring out from it.

Your donations will be spent on the preliminary design. That is, the process through which Vincent Lebailly will draw and check the general dimensions, shapes and weights of the A40, will design all the main layout and ergonomic solutions, and will check that we stay in line with an affordable build. The result of this process will be presented in the form of a full 3D model of the boat, similar to those on display at Vincent's Youtube channel (for instance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_5Fv2LAnuU). It will be made available for 3D visit on an online app.

Contribute what you can: GoFundMe allows donations as small as 5 euros or US dollars, and you coming out as a donor counts as much as the amount of your donation!

Then, consider sharing this fundraiser with others to spread the word.

The list of contributors will, when time comes, be displayed at the factory or on the prototype. If you wish to remain anonymous, please feel free to check the "hide identity" box, or use a family-friendly alias.

Also,
  • if you haven't already subscribed to the Adventure 40 mailing list managed by John, through which future news will keep being told, take a moment to do so!
  • if you're not already a member of AAC, it’s time to go beyond the site’s free content, and consider joining! : https://www.morganscloud.com/
  • lastly, you can show off your support with Adventure 40 tees and sweatshirts designed by AAC member and A40 project visual designer Scott Arenz, at https://www.bonfire.com/adventure-40-swag/

A huge thank you for your donations and continued interest in the Adventure 40!
