Help fund the Flagstaff tow rope

Hi, we are the Ski Haus Tow Rope Capstone team at Northern Arizona University. We are senior mechanical engineering students working on our final project, building a rope tow for Ski Haus and the Flagstaff community. The people of Flagstaff have voiced their need for a tow rope for years, so this is where the project began. This tow rope will be used in rail jams for Ski Haus and made available to other events and organizations. Our aim is to create an in-town, low-cost, rope tow-driven terrain park that will make skiing and snowboarding more accessible to the public and those who may not be able to afford high rates at the mountain. Due to this being our self-made capstone project, the school could not help us with funding. Through Ski Haus, we have fundraised 75% of the budget, about $3000. However, we are reaching the final stretch of deadlines and are looking to raise $1000 to complete the project. So far, the rope tow is about 60% purchased, 30% built and scheduled to be completed by the beginning of March. This means that we will be able to use it this season!

 

What will your donation do for us?

 

It will enable us to purchase the following items:

 

-The remaining steel shafts for the mechanical system that turns the rope

 

-The remaining aluminum for the top pulley that will bring the rope down to the drive unit

 

-Anchors and tensioning straps to secure the entire assembly in position

 

-Plexiglass panels to protect the drive unit from outside conditions

 

-Wheels for ease of transportation

 

-Mounting hardware (nuts, bolts, hinges, etc.)

 

This rope tow requires many small moving parts such as bearings, pulleys, and belts, which add up to be costly, but even the smallest donation gets us one piece closer to having a finished rope tow for you to ride!
