The Last Ride
The Expedition:
The Last Ride Project is an ambitious world’s first in global ski mountaineering, and an exploratory documentary investigating catastrophic deglaciation and its effects within the wider climate emergency. Our aim is to become the first people to climb and ski the tallest mountain on each of the seven continents - from Kilimanjaro at the peak of Africa, to Mt. Vinson in the far-gone plains of Antarctica, and culminating in a nail-biting winter expedition on Mt. Everest.
People:
Over the course of this project, we will collaborate with a wide network of inspirational people and delve into their positive actions in the face of this growing crisis. We will endeavour to meet a broad and inclusive range of people from leading climatologists and environmental activists to local communities and individuals around the world.
Our Mission:
This feat, however, is simply a backdrop to our ultimate goal - to develop a greater understanding of climate change, showcase the beauty and fragility of our world, and most importantly share innovative and actionable strategies to preserve it.
Who We Are:
Our core team consists of -
Ed Salisbury
Ed is an ex-GB Freeskier and carpenter in the UK film and television industry. After his competitive ski carrier Ed moved into ski mountaineering and discovered his connection to environmentalism through the majesty of the Alps. This project began in Ed’s mind, and he is spear-heading the logistical direction of our expeditions and the overall progression of the project.
Will Tucker
Will is an ex-ski racer, ski coach, Freestyle World Cup judge and UK canoe hire operator. He and Ed have a decade of collaboration on the mountain under their belts, having ridden for White Dot skis together during that time. Will too has developed his outlook through ski mountaineering and has a fiery motivation to use his passion for good.
Jon Moy
Jon is an award-winning Director & Cinematographer who documented the GB Freeski & Snowboard team’s journey through two Winter Olympics cycles. As a nipper Jon ski-raced competitively in the UK and has always been deeply captivated and inspired by the beauty of our world. Jon is leading our creative direction to bring this journey to screen, and will accompany Ed and Will on these expeditions.
We will of course be accompanied by wonderful local guides and support crews on location, as well as a network of influential environmental organisations and individuals behind the scenes – all of whom will play their part in this story.
Why is The Last Ride called The Last Ride?
Tragically we will most likely be the last people to ski the Seven Summits, as their historic glaciers are melting at an unprecedented rate. For example: scientists project that the ice fields on Kilimanjaro will be gone within a decade, and the glaciers atop Puncak Jaya (the highest peak in Australasia) with have disappeared by this time next year.
How will your donations help?
Your contributions will help us raise the funds we need to continue producing this film, so that we can collectively develop our understanding of these issues, search for solutions and share that vital inspiration to fight for our natural world.
The money from this crowd fund will be used to help us combat our carbon footprint through reduction, offsetting and capturing initiatives. It will also help us give back to the communities who host us and assist in amplifying their voice through this platform.
When can you tune in?
Right now!
We are so deeply grateful and thankful for all of your donations. Thank you for joining us on this journey.
