Hi, I go by NelaK in the Neverwinter Nights Sinfar Persistent World server. I've played on the server for a long time now and for the last few years I've been the lead builder for Sakura. A couple weeks ago Mavrixio expressed that he's looking to hand over ownership of the server to an individual or individuals willing to take over the responsibilities of running the server and breathing new life into it after years of stagnation due to him no longer having time to work on the server.

Badger, LockOn, and I are putting together a plan to take over the ownership of the server and guide it to the next stage of its evolution.

This endeavor is going to require a lot of time, effort and support and we are looking for people who believe in our vision and want to help the community we've all come to enjoy over the years survive and even thrive into the future.

We've tried to answer some questions you might have below but please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.

I thought the total amount needed was $10,000. Why are you trying to raise $13,000?

The goal is $10,000 USD however GoFundMe requires the goal to be set in the currency of the fundraiser which would be Canadian Dollars (CAD) so we’ve set a goal of roughly the equivalent amount in CAD.

When entering your donation GoFundMe defaults to CAD so please double check the amount entered to make sure it is what you expected and so that we can hit our goal. (Quick currency converter: https://www.xe.com/ )

What will the money be spent on?

We intend to spend the money on acquiring Sinfar and all the things associated with the community. That includes the websites, forums, wiki, nwn server, source code written by Mavrixio, control of the Discord server, control of the Patreon account, and so forth. It will also include Mavrixio’s time to ensure everything is working correctly and resolve any issues that might come up.

What about any money you raise beyond your goal?

If we happen to beat our goal any extra money will be spent on the additional costs that will come with closing this deal (transaction fees, and so forth). It will also be spent on hosting costs and other expenses which might come up.

Will you need donations in the future?

Operating the community isn’t free and while LockOn, Badger, and I are committed to personally covering those costs long into the future; any help we receive will always be greatly appreciated.

How will you make sure the transaction happens without any problems?

We will negotiate a multi-stage contract with Mavrixio to ensure a fair transfer of control.

Payments will be split up into 3 parts - two payments of $2000 CAD upon hitting certain milestones, and a final payment of $9000 CAD to complete the deal. See the next question for more details.

What does the transition plan look like?

The transition will be broken up into three phases.

Phase 1 will begin upon the initial payment and will include the initial setup of our new server and Mav’s time to make sure that happens without any issues.

Phase 2 will be when our server goes live. At this point everything will be hosted on our server and it will be what you log into when you log on to play. We will have the right to operate the server but we will not be the owners of the server and therefore cannot take any major decisions without Mavrixio’s say so.

Phase 3 comes with the final payment and at this point we will assume full ownership of Sinfar.

The timeline for these phases is something that still needs to be figured out but to avoid any issues we will try to make sure it happens as quickly as possible.

What happens if we don't reach the fundraising goal?

For the server and community things will continue as is. Mavrixio has said that he will continue hosting everything as it exists today indefinitely.

Due to how GoFundMe works as a platform, they immediately collect and transfer the money regardless of if the fundraising goal is hit or not. While we've tried to reach out to people to get enough pledges that we are confident the fundraising goal will be hit there is a risk of not reaching it. But in case it happens we will do our best to refund everyone’s donations. It might be a messy and prolonged process though since GoFundMe can only refund donations that haven’t been withdrawn yet and they seem to automatically transfer the funds on a daily basis. (I’ve submitted a support request to change that since it won’t let me change it for some reason). Any withdrawn funds we’ll have to figure out for each donor on how to transfer them.

What do I get in exchange for my donation?

What changes are you promising to make?

Only that we will do our best to make sure this deal goes through smoothly and quickly. Beyond that there are things that we intend to look into if everything works out such as a NWN:EE migration and lots of other things but we aren’t in a place to make any commitments yet.

Who are NelaK, Badger, or LockOn?

Most of you probably know at least one of us quite well but maybe not all of us so here’s some information about us:

Who is NelaK?

As I mentioned at the top of this page, I’ve been a long time player of the server and lurked around for a builder/scripter for a while. The last few years I’ve been the head builder for Sakura, a small Japanese mythology inspired setting on Arche Terre focused on GM run story lines.

I’ve played under a few different accounts but my most well known characters would be June Angelf d’Eath and Ichigatsu Angelf d’Eath. Before coming to Sinfar I played on a couple different RP servers (Kymlun and Teknights Castle) and I’ve been RPing on NWN PW servers since the game first launched. I stumbled into Sinfar one day purely out of curiosity and not really intending to stick around but once I saw past all the initial craziness I discovered a server that offered an amazing amount of freedom for players to explore their creativity. I was hooked and I’ve been around ever since.

Over the years I’ve met countless amazing people on the server; a number of whom I now consider some of my best friends. So Sinfar has become a strange but special place to me and I’m looking forward to helping it reach new heights.

Who is LockOn?

I am also a long-time player, though I think shortest time-played on Sinfar of the three of us. Primarily most know me by the single character Telemnus, who is usually seen racing through the city streets on my way to do something or other. When I joined the server I fell in love with the building tools available in Sinfar. With them, I’d host events in my house, and when I got a portal in the Lotus Isles, I built my own town, ran my own events, and worked for a long time helping other players play games and tell stories.

Over the years, I’ve met with Nelak and Badger and we’ve worked together on multiple projects, ranging from Sakura to Sinifer City and a bunch in between. Currently I’m chief builder of Sinifer City and Sinfar Island.

Who is Badger?

NelaK: Badger is currently sleeping right now but I’m sure they’ll write this section themselves when they notice it. For now though!

Badger is yet another long-time player on the server most well known for their character Amavel. They also volunteer as one of the DMs and generally help take care of fixing things around the server whether that’s scripts, models, haks, areas, players, or anything else.
