Help Fund Vick's Creative Journey

Hi, my name is Vick. I'm a Canadian author and I'm fundraising for creative writing competitions.
I have loved creative writing and have been writing all my life, creating new reading material to entertain and spread the message of hope and peace. I love filling a blank page with a pen and creating something brand new that never existed before.
In 2012/2013 my poem "A Noble Death" won second place in the annual Royal Canadian Legion's poetry competition.
A huge part of my love for literature started when I was in the second grade. My teacher was reading the first book in the Harry Potter series to my class, this was just before the first movie was released. I immediately fell in love with reading (and the Harry Potter series) from that point on.
I've always loved creating and telling stories. Currently, I mostly write poetry and short stories, and I recently expanded into writing children's picture books. My long term goal has always been to write novels, I currently have several ideas I'm working on including two different fantasy series'.
Over the years, I have submitted collections of poetry, that I spent many years writing and putting together, to publishers for consideration, unfortunately I have not had any luck.
I have been published in over twenty collections of poetry and short stories, through free competitions by the Polar Expressions Publishing, last year one of my poems even received a special honourable mention by them. While this is all very exciting, these collection's I'm featured in are not my own exclusive books. The goal of every author/writer is to be published and release their own book(s), my goal is no different.
I have struggled for many year's to get published. Most publishers are now encouraging submissions from people from visible minority groups. As a person of colour who has faced much adversity, I thought this might be my opportunity and this might make it easier to finally get published, but alas that has not been the case. It has not been easy to face and deal with so much rejection. But luckily I'm not the type of person who gives up easily.
So that brings me to the purpose of this fundraising campaign. I'm going to build myself up some more to become a little more established, to do that I am going to join and compete in some more high end poetry competitions.
Writing contests such as:
- CBC Poetry Prize
- Tom Howard/Margaret Reid Poetry Contest
- Lesley Strutt Poetry Contest
- The Montreal Poetry Prize
Just to name a few.
In order to be able to compete in each of these competitions however, it's going to cost money, and they all add up so it gets expensive. This part of the creative process is not cheap. This is where your help and assistance comes in. Entry fees for these competitions vary and can range from anywhere between $30-$100, sometime even in USD which is more after the CAD conversion rate. With your kind and generous support I will be able to participate in more of these incredible writing competitions. I know I can and will be successful if I am able to make submissions to these contests. After that my name will be more recognizable and I'll be more likely to get published, or at the very least be taken more seriously by publishers and literary agents.
Thank you very much for your time, consideration, generosity, kindness and support! God bless!
