Help Funding Sam's Tendon Surgery
Donation protected
Hello!
My name is Sam, and I recently lost the ability to use my left thumb properly.
Back in 2015, I had an accident Freeclimbing in Vail. I fell 30 feet, landing directly on my left foot and left hand. My wrist and ankle snapped immediately and required hefty surgery to rebuild.
Nearly 8 years later, that fall is coming back to haunt me in a very unexpected way. I recently saw a specialist who told me that one of the tendons I need to control my thumb has essentially been rubbing up against the metal hardware in my wrist this whole time, and the tendon finally gave out. Meaning the only way I'll be able to regain the usage of my left thumb will be to have surgery which will take a secondary tendon from one of my fingers and move it over to the thumb, as well as remove the hardware that currently exists in my wrist. This will be followed by at least 8 weeks in a cast/splint, and physical therapy to retrain my left hand. The surgery is estimated to cost about $2000.
Here is a picture of the troublesome hardware in my wrist that will be removed:
I work with my hands all the time. My profession is repairing electronics, namely Video Game Hardware, and the usage of both of my hands is essential to both my work and my hobbies. So I'm reaching out to ask for help paying for this unexpected surgery in hopes of getting it taken care of as soon as possible. Every little bit helps and will be greatly appreciated.
All donations will go directly to the surgery and/or physical therapy that I will require.
I'm hopeful that with a little help, I'll be using my thumb again sooner rather than later! Thank you so much for checking out my GoFundMe page.
