Help Gail & Eric manage CRPS consequences
Donation protected
Hi!
My name is Guy and I'm fundraising for a colleague and friend, Gail Cameron and her doting husband Eric.
Eric was born a helper. Always there when someone needed help. From his service in the Army to work as to tow truck driver. And even though he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure (he now has a Pacemaker / Defibrillator implanted in his chest), he didn’t let that stop him. As a tow truck driver, he wouldn’t accept any calls to repossess or relocate a car because, as Eric would say, “They are having a tough enough time as it is and I’m not going to add to it.”
Unfortunately, Eric himself is going through a tough time right now.
In December of 2021, while on a call to assist a person with a disabled vehicle, Eric stepped out of his truck and seriously injured his foot. He didn’t let that stop him. In fact, he continued to work for a couple of weeks more. But then things got worse. Much worse.
The pain was getting unbearable. Eric had broken bones in the past so he knew what it should feel like. This pain was much more than it should have been. Unable to put even minor pressure on his foot, he was taken to the hospital. There, he was diagnosed with a rare disease called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).
CRPS is a chronic pain syndrome that is not fully understood. The nerves that transmit pain signals to the brain are unable to stop. The pain is so intense and relentless, as in Eric’s case, that even multiple pain medications including strong opioids do little to relieve the pain.
To date, Eric has had multiple surgeries including the implanting of a Dorsal Root Ganglion Stimulator and a Spinal Cord Stimulator. This disease has left Eric permanently disabled. What’s worse, and, why Eric needs our help, his employer was a small business and did not carry workers compensation insurance. Eric has lost his job and is unable to work.
The dollars you so kindly donate here will help Gail and Eric get to and from his various rehabilitative appointments (Gail's car decided to die recently too), explore alternative courses of treatment, fund legal the legal effort to be validated as disabled ... even small things like filling the pantry and making rent.
Thank you for your support!
