Help Gandalf The Dutch Shepherd!

Gandalf was rescued from Chicago Animal Control by Midwest Working Dog Rescue. He was found as a stray but his family never reclaimed him. Gandalf is the sweetest, most laid back boy, and it’s hard to believe no one came looking for him. MWDR brought Gandalf in for his neuter surgery so that he could begin the journey to find his forever home. What is usually a routine surgery for most dogs has turned into an emergency for Gandalf. He was being closely monitored after surgery, and MWDR noticed major swelling at his incision site. We brought him in to our regular vet who informed us it was a scrotal hematoma. We took Gandalf home and the worst thing possible happened - the hematoma ruptured. Gandalf is now hospitalized at Premier in Chicago. He has lost the ability to use his rear leg and we’re hoping this is temporary. Gandalf is on strong antibiotics and a culture was sent out to ensure they’re the right ones to fight this infection. The hematoma was drained but Gandalf is in a lot of pain. We are hoping that he continues to fight and that he will regain use of his leg. Gandalf has been the sweetest boy during all of this allowing handling from many different vet techs and staff. He will continue to receive the best care possible but we need your help! Midwest Working Dog Rescue is a small, newly founded non-profit. We have limited medical funds this early on and did not expect such a simple survey to go wrong.
