Help Garrett Get The Care He Needs After His ICU Battle

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

Our beloved brother and son, Garrett, has been fighting for his life in the ICU since the evening of February 8th, and while we are endlessly grateful that he is still with us, his road to recovery will be a long and challenging one.

Garrett was found unconscious in his apartment, having suffered from cardiac arrest, and was in critical condition by the time he was rushed to the hospital. Thanks to immediate CPR and emergency care, he survived—but the damage to his body and brain is still uncertain. Doctors have told us that, at the very least, he will not be able to live on his own or work for quite some time. He will require daily care in the short and medium term, and potentially long-term support depending on the extent of his neurological recovery.

Why We Need Your Help

Our family is doing everything we can to secure financial aid, including government assistance programs, but the harsh reality is that these programs will not be enough to cover the level of care that Garrett will need. Between travel costs, commutes to and from the hospital, costs of rehabilitation, medical equipment, home care, and lost wages, the financial strain is beginning to take a toll on our family and the mounting expenses are becoming unmanageable.

We are humbly asking for your support to help Garrett get the care he needs as he recovers. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the financial strain and go directly toward:

Medical expenses (rehabilitation, therapies, medications, including his insulin, etc.)
Daily care support (in-home care, assisted living if needed, inpatient care, etc.)
Living expenses (food, rent, utilities while he is unable to work, lost wages, etc.)
Travel expenses (when/if travel is necessary to the betterment of Garrett’s care. For context, our parents, Dave and Debbie, live in Washington state, Devin lives in California, Taylor and Violet live in New Mexico)

Garrett’s Story

For those who know Garrett, you know that he has struggled with severe Type 1 Diabetes for years. Managing his condition has been incredibly difficult, and despite our family’s best efforts to support him, his health has continued to decline. Despite this, he has never let his condition define him and has remained one of the kindest and most thoughtful people that anyone could ever meet. He puts the needs of others above his own time and time again.

Garrett’s closest friends would define him as a compassionate listener, a skilled board game night organizer, and dedicated D&D night participant. His absence in these rooms has been felt greatly in his time of recovery.

After graduating from the Art Institute of Minnesota, Garrett moved to Toronto and has been working in the Film and Television industry for the past 10+ years. He has been accredited as a rotoscope artist in 26+ movies and television shows, such as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, King Arthur, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Doctor Strange, Passengers, and many more (Garrett’s IMBD Page ).

This recent crisis is the culmination of many years of medical struggles, and it is clear that he needs significant intervention and support moving forward.

As we navigate this challenging time, we are reaching out to our community for help. If you are able to contribute, it would make a tremendous difference in allowing us to focus on Garrett’s recovery and our family’s well-being without the constant worry of how we’ll make ends meet. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this campaign with your network. Every share brings us closer to giving Garrett the care and dignity he deserves in his recovery.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love, kindness, prayers and generosity. Your support means the world to us during this incredibly difficult journey.

With gratitude,

Dave & Debbie, Devin, Brennan, Taylor & Violet, and Alannah
