Hi my name is Madison and I’m Gary’s niece, late June Gary noticed he kept having tightness in his chest. After a week of dealing with it his wife Bridgette made him go to the ER. The ER did test and found nothing but a hernia in the lower part of his stomach. Gary followed up with his primary care Dr and they referred him to a cardiologist and hernia Dr. He went to the hernia Dr and they told him it was not a hernia. He then went to the cardiologist and had several test done. All the test he had done came back normal. He was referred to do a stress test which took place on Aug 2nd. He put on great #’s but the nuclear part said otherwise. Not long after leaving he got a call saying he had a blockage in a main chamber of his heart. He was told he was to do absolutely nothing and that he would need a catheterization. He was scheduled Aug 13th for the arm cath. The Dr got in and found out it was 100% blocked. He aborted mission and referred him to another Dr to rotor it out. He went to Duke on Sep 3rd for the procedure. He had 2 caths done on both sides of his groin. The dr found the blockage but was unable to break it out and put stents in. He aborted mission and referred him to another Dr in Duke for open heart surgery. They met with the new Dr sep 23rd to discuss surgery. Gary now has an appt in duke for open heart surgery on October 14th. They will have to go to duke on October 13th for him to be admitted the next day for his surgery. Gary will be in the hospital for at least 5 days after surgery and someone will have to stay with him a week after getting home. He has been out of work since Aug 2nd and won’t be able to return until January 1, 2025 if all goes well. He was able to receive short term disability but that’s only about 1/2 his pay. His wife Bridgette has also been in and out of work taking him to all his appointments. She will also be out the week of his surgery and also the week after to care for Gary. She has no time left to put him to cover while she is out caring for Gary.
