If you know me you’ll know that sport plays a big part in my life! I have played pretty much every sport under the sun from a young age! Safe to say I am sport obsessed! Into adulthood I have predominantly played football and my passion for sport led me to become a PE teacher! I’m reaching out to share my story and ask for your support during this challenging time. On September 1st, the first game of the season and the day before Schools went back I suffered an ACL injury that has sidelined me from both playing the sport I love and performing my job effectively. After initially being told that an urgent MRI was 19 weeks I was hopeful that I would be back on the pitch by then, with what was thought to be a knee dislocation and MCL tear. I was fortunate enough to get a cancellation appointment for an MRI 3.5 weeks post injury. On October 17th I received my results. I was told the worst possible news that any sportsperson wants to hear “ACL complete rupture, MCL sprain and a tibial fracture!” The words “Are you sure?” came out my mouth as I couldn’t understand how I had done so much damage yet made so much progress in 7 weeks. Going from thinking it’ll only be a couple more months until I’m back on the pitch to the joining the very long 1-2year waiting list for surgery was devastating. Which doesn’t include the 12-18month post surgery rehabilitation to get back to full fitness. This could potentially mean 3 years out from being able to play sport and being able to fulfil my teaching duties properly! In the current women’s Super League, ACL injuries have become increasingly common, with studies showing that up to 30% of female footballers will experience this type of injury at some point in their careers. Hearing this news was heart breaking for me, not just because of the physical setback, but because sport is my main outlet for mental wellbeing. The reconstruction surgery I need is crucial for my recovery and my future in both football and teaching. However, the costs associated with the surgery and rehabilitation are beyond what I can manage on my own. With surgery costing within the regions of £8,000-£12,000! With the additional physio fees pre and post surgery! I’m determined to get back on my feet, both literally and figuratively, so I can return to the pitch and continue inspiring my students at school. Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to me and help me on this journey to recovery. I understand that not everyone is able to financially contribute, but simply sharing my story can help significantly!

Thank you for supporting me during this difficult time. Your generosity is truly appreciated!!!
