Help Gene Stull with a Stem Cell Transplant

Gene Stull was diagnosed with multiple myeloma leukemia in August after going to doctor with what he thought was pain for kidney stones. Multiple myeloma is a rare form of cancer characterized by excessive production (proliferation) and improper function of certain cells (plasma cells) found in the bone marrow.

 

Gene was referred to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for next steps. At Mayo Clinic he began treatment immediately with chemotherapy. Initially, Gene and Judy have been travelling bi-weekly to Rochester for treatments. In November, Gene learned that the chemotherapy was not successful in shrinking the tumors and it was suggested he was a candidate for stem cell replacement. Gene was scheduled for stem cell transplant in mid-January but it has been moved up to early January after Gene broke his humerus bone in his upper arm. Christmas Day Gene went to Rochester, MN to the emergency room to be admitted for the broken arm and is awaiting surgery before the stem cell transplant can now be started. Genes's blood count numbers have increased and therefore they will move forward with stem cell replacement transplant as soon as possible.  The break in the arm will cause this delay and will extend their stay at Mayos up to 3 months.

 

We are raising funds for Gene to support him during this journey of the stem cell replacement, travel expenses including hotels, food, etc. needed for a three month stay at Mayo Clinic and any follow up expenses needed.He will have very limited contact with anyone at this time due to being highly susceptible to illness.  After surgery additional trips to Mayos for chemo and radiation will continue for the rest of his life.
