Help Gentry On His Journey- Life Saving Surgery

Gentry Garrett is a three year old little boy living in Daphne, AL. He’s adventurous & full of personality. Gentry was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (Missing the left ventricle of his heart.)

He’s had two open heart surgeries before age one, multiple hospitalizations & complications. Including a stroke, G-Tube fed, dialysis, GI bleeds & 4 life flight rides.

Right now, Gentry is currently not a candidate for the third life saving surgery he needs (The Fontan) or a transplant, because his left pulmonary artery is no longer connected to his left lung. HLHS is a very complex heart defect & his lung issues & liver issues make it difficult to move forward.

Our home hospital (Children’s of Alabama) have exhausted all options. So we went to Texas Children’s to start our second opinion journey. Texas Children’s also denied any surgical procedures & said we have a year or two left with Gentry…

We aren’t ready to give up on Gentry. We will NEVER give up. His mom, Angel, has reached out to Dell Children’s, CHOP, Boston, CHNOLA & Cincinnati Children’s, in hopes of finding a surgeon to save Gentry!

So far, Dr. Fraser at Dell Children’s believes he can do an LPA repair which could get Gentry better surgical options (Transplant or Fontan). If Dr. Fraser agrees to this surgery, we would pack up our things & make the temporary move to Austin, TX within the next 6 months.

Despite everything he’s been through, Gentry still lives his life to the fullest. He played his first season of T-ball this year & we went to Disney for his Make-A-Wish trip!
