CFL & RIDER NATION:
The great George Reed needs our help!
Most of you know that for most, if not all, of George's adult life, he has given 110% on and off the field. He has worked with as many as 48 charities at one time and has traveled all over our great Province to communities, large and small, sharing himself with all and inspiring many.
Now, George and Angie need our help.
Throughout his illustrious 13-year career with the Riders, George has experienced many injuries and broken bones that, since retirement, have taken their toll on him. Recently, George was forced to cut back on many of his charity pursuits, not because he wanted to, but because of two devastating back surgeries that have reduced his mobility and independence. In an attempt to retain his strength and mobility after surgery, George spent more than two months in the hospital and three months at the Wascana Rehab Centre, however, it wasn’t enough and he needs more.
In spite of it all, George keeps moving forward, with the same determination he did on the field, to support the things he cares about the most.
Many of you have seen George at the Rider home games supporting our team, but having to use a walker or a wheelchair to get around. He works on building his strength but he needs more physiotherapy than he can afford. Additionally, the last surgery affected his left side, impairing his ability to walk without support. Funding for a special custom knee brace to stabilize his leg and keep his left knee from locking up on him when he tries to walk would help him in getting some of his mobility and independence back. He needs more mobility equipment and these needs will only increase as he ages. PLEASE HELP! Any amount will help towards the therapy and rehabilitation to keep George active and mobile in the community.
George just turned 80 years old but he is still fighting and still giving. I have seen first-hand how he selflessly shows up for a fundraiser to help someone else. He is there signing autographs or taking pictures with his fans, young and old. It is still amazing to see how he has impacted this province and this game when he hasn’t played in 40 years. It’s time for us, as a province, to give back to the great George Reed #34 and help him with his mobility so he can enjoy his remaining years, helping others and cheering on the Green and White!
