Help Georgia to Continue Ski Racing

Hello, my name us Georgia Blaikie. I’m 16 years old and I’m an alpine ski racer.

A Little About Me:

I’ve skied since I was a toddler and what started as a recreational hobby progressed into more serious competition. I started racing six years ago with National Schools Snowsports Association races and squad selection, ESSKIA (English Schools’ Ski Association) team athlete for the last three years and picked for the under-16 national side at the International School Sport Federation’s (ISF) World Winter Games in Erzurum, Turkey last year, which unfortunately was cancelled because of the tragic earthquake.

From here I’ve represented Great Britain twice as international children’s races in the Pra Loup, Southern Alps and am extremely excited to have been selected for the Scottish Ski team for the coming season. I chose to represent Scotland to follow in my Dad's footsteps as he played rugby for Scotland. The Scottish team also have a great pathway and training opportunities.

I currently train with Excel Race Academy based near Salzburg in Austria during the winter from December to March. I ski train five days a week (Ski 8-12 and then school 1-5, then Gym/Fitness/Video analysis, dinner, ski prep & bed). I have school all day on Saturdays and a day off on Sunday.

My Goal:

I love training and racing and my goal is to hopefully be selected for the GB Squad if I can continue to progress, give 100% and make the most of every training opportunity I have. Who knows maybe I’ll even get to compete on the Europa and World Cup circuit like Charlie Guest and Dave ‘the Rocket’ Ryding who also started on a dry slope in Pendle, Lancashire where my Nanna lives!

Each day, I work hard at my training. I’m really committed to my training and when others take breaks, my friend Emily and I take every opportunity for another run!

Funding:

I really need to find sponsors and funding to support my 2024 / 2025 season, so that I can continue to train & race to best of my ability and fulfil my potential. I’m so grateful to my parents who I know make sacrifices to pay for all my training, racing and equipment. They can only do so much though and I would hugely appreciate any amount , no matter how big or small to kindly support me to reach my dream and represent my country. There is no funding available at any levels from GB Snowsport for ski racing.

Over recent years, glacier training in Europe has reduced and to get the training needed for Giant Slalom I have to go to Chile to train in the summer. The costs are around £9,000 and I’m really hoping to be able to raise this money to fund the opportunity.
