Help Gerald complete his Grade 12
Donation protected
Gerald is my name. I am 18 years of age. I was born in Tema and currently live in Agbogba-Ashongman Estate, Accra, Ghana. I have a passion for software engineering and an aspiring entrepreneur. Due to my passion for software engineering, I cultivated some qualities which make it easy for me to thrive in this field. Some of these qualities are hardworking, problem-solving, creativity etc. I am currently studying at Mahindra United World College of India. It has been almost a year since I studied at MUWCI. I am a rising senior going to grade 12. I also have other passions which include photography, basketball, football, table tennis. I believe I am multi-talented however I did not get the chance to explore diverse sports. Attending MUWCI gave me the chance to explore a plethora of sports and activities I would have never done. I am looking forward to finishing at this institution.
At the end of 2018, I was awarded a partial scholarship to study at UWC Mahindra College and I am currently on 70% scholarship and I have been able to pay my first-year fees. This was possible with the help of donors. Currently, I need to pay my second-year fees which is $9700. My mom has been able to make a 10% payment of the fees which is $970. I still need $8730 for my school fees which are to be paid by November. I would like to ask you for your support to pay the balance of my second-year fees. Due to financial constraint, It is almost nearly inhibiting that process since my mom is single-handedly taking care of me and my three siblings. Unfortunately, she does not have a job. Moreover, her business is bringing meagre earnings. Undoubtedly, many people would have given up on such an opportunity. Unlike me, any obstacle gives me a chance to find an alternative to solving it. My undefeatable spirit helps me move forward in every endeavour of my life. This determination is what I learnt from my mother. I believe the donations made will significantly help achieve my goals and also change my life for the better. I am an agent of change, but one who wants to effect cannot be isolated in a world where change is not so welcome. Therefore attending this school is very dear to my heart.

What is UWC?
United World Colleges(UWC) is a worldwide movement which was established to bring students from all over the world together for their shared humanity, their ability to engage with the possibility of social change through courageous action, personal example and selfless leadership. UWC is a global education movement that makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. Students learn about other cultures and become a more inclusive and well-rounded person as well as a global citizen. This movement comprises 19 schools scattered all across the globe. The curriculum followed is the International Baccalaureate(IB) which is a rigorous system of education. This type of system allows students to explore a wide variety of subjects and also reflect immensely on how we learn, how we know what we know and so much more. It also awards a diploma on successful completion of the IB exams. What makes this type of education unique is the beautiful balance between education and other activities. The approach to learning is holistic and well structured which gives students the tools to be life-long learners.
I have actively engaged at my school during my first year. I have participated In the football and basketball matches. I embarked on a hike to a hill called Whagzai. I participated in the Canadian Coding Competition(a programming competition organized by the University of Waterloo) where I achieved a distinction certificate. I am currently working on a project called All Clean Ghana. This initiative aims to improve sanitation in market areas in Ghana. Our project is currently targeting the Dome Market in Ghana. With this project idea, I participated in a competition named The Change Maker Project where my project won $1130 as seed funding. I also worked on another project called Aruni. The project's goal was to help local farmers around the school community get localized weather data. This data was to be retrieved from the weather station located in the school. I also actively participate in a community service where we teach kids in a local village basic computer skills.
MUWCI is a unique experience and I wish to finish and get the best of this experience. I would be grateful if you can contribute to help me fulfill my dream. God bless.
